most of the time atlas is depicted as laboriously holding up the world, or heavens, but what, or who, supports atlas?
through a metaphor of atlas as capitalism, i illustrate the only outcome of the authoritarian regime of corporate monopoly, holding all of the wealth of the world’s resources, surrounded by paid mercenaries, weapons and barricades and the institutions that protect and enable his hoarding. the people outside of the barricade fill a desolate landscape, living among waste and wreckage of a society fighting over what remains, or is meted out for their operating the remaining industries in support of atlas.
