The Great Unraveling

the needle on the vinyl
skips yet begins
again its steady course
scraping along
like tilling soil
the pointed blade
slicing black
thinly evenly
strips of skin

the screeching waves of sound cascade
echo hiccup and claw away at shredded bits

raw and reeling
i’m letting go
stretching out
strings vibrating
a trembling bass
a terrible wail the
singer’s cry — tomorrow
tomorrow  tomorrow  to– t-
