Sculpture Prototype for a New Art Series
While I've been busy with several web projects, I've also been prototyping several scultural pieces, and taking some time to examine various methods to achieve my message. This first sculptural piece is an snake coiled around an apple — currently untitled. The portrayal of the snake and apple is definitely meant to conjure visions of the parable of 'first sin' — the snake tempting eve with the fruit of knowledge. I've been working off and on with felt for several years, and revisit this material for my apple-snake creation. The material is basic, and primal and suits the subject matter well for this purpose. I'm happy with this execution, but by no means is the piece where i want it to be for the intended series. I plan on making necessary adjustments to the pattern and assembling the new elements, likely with some additional colors.
While I don't want to go into too much detail about the series as yet, I wanted to post some new items to the blog. I will most likely start a 'Work in Progress' section for this site to post ongoing projects, and art pieces in various states of incompletion.
It will be good for me to document some of the permutations of my art and may give others insight into my process. What do you think?
